Arguably one of the sexier veterans on the track these days, Bobby Labonte is proof that men get better with age.
The soft-spoken Texan returns to the NASCAR circuit this season with a new team and a sweet new paint scheme. Driving for Hall of Fame Racing in partnership with Yates Racing, Labonte wants NASCAR fans to know that he will be a contender for race wins.
Although, some of what he may not want you to know is within this list of Five Things About Bobby Labonte.
With the cast of canines at Labonte's house, the man is not sure whether he is still pack leader.
He has three dogs: a yellow Labrador Retriever named Isabella, a chocolate Labrador Retriever named Daisy and a ... wait for it ... Chihuahua named Chloe. Huh?
"It was a weak moment," Labonte explains. "She's a travel dog. I can take her on the road with me. The others don't travel."
Labonte will tell you he's not a "cool" guy per se, he's not trendy. He watches some television shows, but what he loves to watch most is The Weather Channel.
Local, national, summer or fall, the man can't live without his daily forecast.
"Because there's always something happening and it's not like it could be happening or it's rumored to happen. It's actually happening! Somewhere there is wind or the sun is shining," Labonte said. "I have it on a lot, sometimes 10 to 12 hours a day, but I only pay attention to it when I want."
Well instead of launching his own marketing agency, Breaking Limits, maybe Labonte should've become a meteorologist or purchased a Doppler radar for the backyard.
In all seriousness, Labonte is a huge fan of the rodeo and is good pals with Jerome Davis, the former professional bull rider who was paralyzed in a 1998 accident. Labonte gave his race earnings to Davis after he won a Nationwide race that same year at Darlington.
Although his racing career is significantly younger than that of his older -- and partially retired -- brother Terry Labonte, Bobby has 21 career wins to his brother's 22. But both drivers are past Cup champions.
When Bobby was crowned in 2000, Terry and Bobby became the first brothers to win the Sprint Cup championship in the history of the sport.
Back in 2001, a park in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, was named after the Labonte brothers. Bobby Labonte said three things always perfected his weekends growing up in the town: mornings at the bowling alley, lunch at Luby's Cafeteria and an evening at the racetrack.
Turns out, racing isn't his only talent. He's ambidextrous and takes it to the bowling lanes. He loves to bowl and is a very good with the left as well as the right hand.
